Sunday April 24

In preparation for this Sunday I am asking you to listen in on a sermon by Jill Briscoe titled “Seeing Through Suffering.” She turns to the Book of Job to for thoughts on what God’s purposes may be in suffering.

Smell: Read Job 1-3.

If you want to really dig in, I can give you an “overachiever” project! Read all the speeches of Job (chapters 3, 6-7, 9-10, 12-14, 16-17, 19, 21, 23-24, 26-31, 42) and come to church on Sunday with any verse as evidence that Job considers himself a sinner or confesses his sin.

Taste: Listen to the sermon.

This week’s sermon is available by audio only. Go here to listen! A couple of things:

  • There are a few promos through the video. There’s a little button that lets you skip forward 15 seconds at a time to skip those parts.
  • If you listen in a Chrome browser, you can set up captions by following these instructions (the gist of it is Settings-Advanced-Accessibility-Captions).
  • Jill’s sermon is followed up by a number of sermons on suffering by Stuart Briscoe. Our discussion will center on Jill’s sermon linked above, but if you want to continue listening, check out “Why God Allows Suffering,” Part 1 and Part 2.

Eat: Join the conversation.

In person: We gather Sundays at 5 PM. We eat a meal together, followed by a time of conversation and encouragement. No one will call on you. No need to bring anything, but if you are more comfortable with a contribution bring chips, bread, or a side dish. We hope to make you feel welcome! For more about what to expect, click here.

On Zoom: To join us for the conversation log on  to Zoom around 5:40: click here for the link.

We pray that you encounter the living Jesus in your life over the coming days and months. Jesus is alive, he loves you, and is faithful to meet those who are sincerely wanting to know more about him. We would love to meet you at dinner church sometime. Keep coming back to this page to keep up with our Sunday evening gatherings!
